How to read the wheel

A guided tour of the chart graphic on this site — what every ring, tick and line is for.

Draft outline

A tour of this site’s own wheel, ring by ring, outside in. Use the Istanbul chart on the home page as the worked example so the reader can follow along on a real drawing.

Outside in

The sign ring, the degree ticks, the house divisions, the planets, the aspect lines.

Why the ascendant is on the left

And why the midheaven sits near the top but not exactly on it. This is a good place to show that the drawing reports the geometry rather than tidying it.

The leader lines

Explain that a planet’s glyph may be nudged for legibility and the tick shows its true degree. A reader who notices this deserves an answer.

Reading a stellium

What to do when three glyphs are crowded together.
